Course Objective

The aim of this course is to analyse Turkish literature from Tanzimat to modern day and to devolop students' knowledge about that era.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to comprehend and explain the historical, social, political and cultural developments which play a role in the development of Republican period literature.
2   To be able to determine the positions of novels, stories and drama writers in Turkish literature in the Republican period and analyze their texts..
3   To be able to identify and compare the writers of this period with those of Western literature and Turkish literature..
4   To be able to analyze the attitudes of the authors of the Republican era against historical, cultural and political issues from the texts..
5   To be able to apply basic literary theories on the works of the authors..
6   Acting from the texts they read, functioning of literature, thinking about approaches to current problems.
7   To be able to apply the developmental characteristics of the students and the individual differences to the teaching strategies, methods and techniques that best suit them by taking into consideration the basic concepts of Turkish language and literature.

The evaluation of the course will be based on midterm and final exams. Apart from this, there are no special evaluation criteria.
