Course Objective

The main aim of this course is to know the safe working rules in the laboratory, to work in the laboratory knowing the dangerous chemicals and their properties, to raise individuals who are aware of the effects of dangerous chemicals on humans and the environment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Learn to work safely in the laboratory and manage hazardous chemicals
2   2. Understand chemical, biological and physical risks in laboratory safety education
3   3. Comprehension of working rules with chemicals and glass materials
4   4. Having information about the necessary safety precautions in case of danger in the laboratory
5   5. Understand the storage and removal of chemicals and take necessary precautions
6   6. To be able to comprehend and apply first aid rules

Course Contents

1 Some information on safe operation and hazardous chemicals regulation (general rules, safety equipment, laboratory staff)
2 Rules to follow in the laboratory
3 Classification of Hazardous Substances (corrosive, flammable, toxic, harmful, irritating, irritating, corrosive, carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic to reproduction, hazardous to the environment), R-S phrases and combinations
4 Classification of dangerous substances (corrosive, flammable, toxic, harmful to health, irritant, sensitive, corrosive, carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic to reproduction, hazardous to the environment), R-S phrases and combinations
5 Most commonly used chemicals and their classification in laboratories (acids, bases, formaldehyde, alkali metals, heavy metals, etc.)
6 Most commonly used chemicals and their classification in laboratories (acids, bases, formaldehyde, alkali metals, heavy metals, etc.)
7 Labeling and storage of chemical substances
8 General Review, Course Evaluation, Midterm Exam
9 Use of glass materials
10 Under-vacuum operation, high-pressure operation and pressure gas cylinders, heating and cooling operations
11 Fire and fire protection methods
12 Storage and removal of chemical wastes
13 Collection of laboratory wastes, harmless disposal and destruction
14 First aid (Eye contact, skin contact, fight with burns, skin protection, eye protection)
15 Final exam
