Course Objective

To teach attachment, writing of structural formulas, resonance, hybridization, naming in alkanes and cycloalkanes; alkenes and alkynes and their reactions; naming and reactions of aromatic compounds; stereochemistry, alkyl halides and reactions; names of alcohols, phenols, and reactions of alcohols; names of ethers and epoxides; names and reactions of aldehydes and ketones; naming of carboxylic acids and their derivatives; amines and naming.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to learn alcans, alkenes and alkynes to name and the reactions they have.
2   To be able to learn stereochemistry, alkyl halides and reactions.
3   To be able to learn the names and reactions of alcohols, alcohols, phenols.
4   To be able to learn the nomenclature of carboxylic acids and their derivatives.

Course topics according to learning outcomes will be assessed via midterm, homeworks, and final exams.

Attendence rule is 70% for the lectures and 80% for the laboratory section.
Attemps to cheat may result in disciplinary actions.
The instructor has right to make quizzes. The scores obtained from quizzes may be added to midterm and final grades. Students will be informed at the beginning of the semester.
