Course Objective

The aim of this internship is to teach that the content of health services is treating patients, preventing disease, promoting health with equality and to practice with this notion. It is designed to understand the factors which have negative effects on public health. It is intended to enable the students to evaluate the biologic, psychological, social and cultural components of health, evaluate the individual with her/his environment and monitor and to teach the knowledge and skills to define the solutions to health problems using epidemiologic methods.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Comprehend the life style, work life genetic, nutritional, demographic, environmental, social, economic, psychological and cultural determinants of health and disease in the population.
2   Comprehend that health services should be provided for the healthy individuals primarily.
3   Understand the organizational principals of health systems.
4   Understand the relationship between primary, secondary and tertiary levels of health care.
5   Realize the principals, application and planning of primary health care.
6   Understand the duty, responsibility and authority of the primary health care personnel and learn to work as a team member.
7   Learn the importance of health education and health promotion of the public and to be able to implement.
8   Comprehend the importance of in service training and supervision and to be able to apply.
9   Gain knowledge of management and the records of a health center.
10   Learn how the data is collected and statistically analyzed in health facilities.
11   Have an understanding of the collaboration of public and private institutions in health.
12   Learn the skills to determine the health needs, develop solutions and apply.
13   Gain skills for decision making by using epidemiologic, demographic, national and local surveillance data.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

During the internship period the assessment are based on competency and evaluated as satisfactory/not satisfactory

DEUMF Rules and Regulations
Article 24
(4) In the 6th year the internships are evaluated as satisfactory/not satisfactory. In order to be qualified as satisfactory he/she has to attend 90% of the related clinical and laboratory applications, complete night duties and all the other responsibilities depicted in the curriculum and have all these registered in his/her log-book. In case of failure the rotation is repeated.
