Course Objective

In general, students will learn the characteristics of poetic texts by learning about the types of texts, knowing the meaning of terms frequently used in poetic analysis, having general information about French poetry, spelling the poem, having the necessary equipment to know the definitions and analyses based on the number of lines, acquiring information about figures of speech and using them in French poetry. Providing students with the skills to apply poetry and find it in French poetry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Distinguishes texts according to their characteristics. Reveals the characteristics of poetic texts.
2   Knows the characteristics of the rhetorical text type
3   Knows the general characteristics of French poetry
4   Recognizes characteristics such as rhyme and audacity.
5   Recognizes different types of verses and knows the measure of syllables.
6   Knows the similarities and differences between prose and poetic expression.
7   Knows the figures of speech most frequently used in poetry.

Course Contents

1 Introduction to Text Types Number of verses in the poem: distich, tercet, quatrin, sizain, dixain etc.
2 Characteristics of the Rhetorical Text Type General characteristics of prose and poetic expression
3 Introduction of some concepts related to poems (Prosodi, pitch, intensity, duration, rhythm, lyric poetry, epic poetry) General introduction to figures of speech. Explain the four type
4 Introduction to French poetry. French poetry based on syllabics. Examples of figures of speech based on sound: alliteration, assonace etc.
5 Caesura and hemistich. Counting syllables. Final exam
6 Enjembement and rejection. Rhyme and its varieties
7 Rhyme exam (continued)

9 Recognition of verses in different meters. Alexandrine
