Course Objective

The course aims to raise participants' awareness of the concepts of communication and culture, and their didactic implications in FLE (French as a Foreign Language) classrooms. Thus, it seeks to draw participants' attention to the communicative-cultural aspect of language-culture teaching.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Establish the relationship between the concepts of language and culture
2   Understand the role of language in the transmission of culture
3   Understand that each language is a richness for global culture
4   Question the importance of language in intercultural interaction
5   Understand the place of Turkish culture within other cultural elements

3 Oppositions concerning the notion of culture Verbal and non verbal elements in culture
4 Oppositions between the notions of civilization and culture Brief on the Turkish-French relationship
5 Relevance of the opposition between civilization/culture in the teaching of (F)LE (French as a Foreign Language) French civilization and culture
6 Linguistic determinism in Sapir-Whorf
7 Cultural capital
8 Opposition between multiculturalism/pluriculturalism/interculturalism
9 Intercultural approach in the teaching of foreing languages
