Course Objective

Students can study the history of the development of the course of medicinal plants, methods of work, object of research, classification and determination of the resource of useful plant-raw sources,compilation of areal maps,characterization of medicinal plants according to the active substances contained in them, etc.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Know the relationship of medicinal plants with other sciences.
2   To detect sources of raw materials of medicinal plants and calculate their stock.
3   Obtaining information about medicinal plants of economic importance.
4   To give a classification of medicinal plants used in various diseases.

1 Introduction. Medicinal plants goals and objectives of the discipline.
2 A brief history of the use of medicinal plants. Medieval and modern Azerbaijan Phytotherapy.
3 Harvesting, drying and storage of medicinal plants.
4 Biological Diversity and Botanical characteristics of Medicinal Plants of flora of Azerbaijan.
5 Medicinal plant raw materials resources of Azerbaijan and methods of studying the resource.
6 Distribution of medicinal plants by natural and economic regions of Azerbaijan.
7 Characterization of medicinal plants according to the active substances contained in them.
8 Midterm exam
9 Essential oil, phytoncidal, vitamin, medicinal plants. Medicinal plants with vaccine, flavonoids, organic acids.
10 Characterization of medicinal plants according to their phytotherapeutic properties. Medicinal plants used in cardiovascular, gastrointestinal diseases.
11 Medicinal plants for liver, biliary, respiratory tract and other diseases.
12 Effective use and protection of medicinal plant resources of Azerbaijan.
13 Compilation of areal maps of medicinal plants.
14 Calculation of the raw material stock of medicinal plants, Effective use and protection of medicinal plants.
