Course Objective

This course aims to supply the students with the skills of identifying and analyzing music forms, and the structural components of musical pieces at various scales.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Can comprehend the concepts "form" and "form analysis" in music, and their purpose and scope.
2   Can identify and name transformed versions of motifs.
3   Can generate mirror transformations of a given musical structure.
4   Can identify cadence types.
5   Can distinguish between series of phrases which do and do not construct periods.
6   Can analyze pieces written as simple part forms.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Each topic is explained and interpreted following the textbook reference, supported when necessary using staved board, piano, audio excerpts from the repertoire. The students directed via questions to discussion of the topic and the examples.
