Course Objective

This course aims to help the student to develop an awareness of the decorative (surface) and illustrative (depth) components of painting and to comprehend the relationship between form, composition and expression by addressing the basic principles of plastic form within the logic of visual thinking.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   In this course the student is expected to explore the decorative (surface) and illustrative (space) components of painting;
2   the perceptual characteristics of the work surface / visual field;
3   he elements of composition such as line, surface (2D shape), depth (3D shape), value and color;
4   the principles of composition such as balance, scale, contrast, pattern, emphasis, movement and rhythm, unity, etc.
5   and ultimately, the relationship between form, composition and expression.
