Course Objective

The purpose of this course, is to provide an analysis of human body from an aesthetic point of view, based on the findings on the anatomic structure of the body, the bone and the musle structure.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The students who take this course are expected to; have fundamental knowledge about the anatomic structure of a human body from an artistic point of view.
2   Learning how to use the acquired anatomical knowledge in artistic applications,
3   To have a solid knowledge of the use of the human figure in their own original painting works,
4   To have knowledge about the proportions and measurements of the human body that can be used in figurative works,
5   The student will learn to do research to increase the student's power of observation and synthesize anatomical drawings by comparing them with drawing studies in the workshop,
6   To have knowledge about the place of anatomy in the history of art by examining examples where human anatomy comes to the fore in the art of painting; is expected.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Information is given about what anatomy is and its place and importance in art and the human skeletal system is explained in detail.
2 Drawings are made from the skeleton and skull in the light of information about the skeletal system.
3 Drawings of the skeleton and skull are continued.
4 Information about the muscular system is given. Charcoal drawing studies are started from the live model.
5 Drawings are continued from the live model with proportion information.
6 Charcoal pattern work from a live model.
7 Drawings of hand and foot regions are made from the live model.
8 Drawing of hand and foot regions from the live model.
9 Pencil drawing work is done to comprehend the anatomical structure of the human face from the live model.
10 Pencil drawing work is done to comprehend the anatomical structure of the human face from the live model.
11 Drawing studies are continued to emphasize the information about human anatomy from the live model in artistic production.
12 Drawings are made from moulages produced from hands and feet.
13 Using different light sources, drawings are made from a live model, based on a clearer representation of the human musculature.
14 With the knowledge acquired during the semester in which freedom is recognized in the choice of the material to be used, students are enabled to make free work from the live model.
15 Free work is continued. End of semester evaluation.

1- It is observed how much basic anatomical knowledge is possessed.
2- The success in transforming the acquired anatomical knowledge into artistic production is evaluated.
3- The timing and quality of the assignments are evaluated.
4- Class participation is taken into consideration.
