Course Objective

This course aims to discuss at a theoretical level the possibilities of exhibiting works of art outside of traditional exhibition venues, galleries and museums and its relationship with public place.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To gain awareness about artistic practices, movements and actions in the public sphere.
2   2. To be able to comprehend and interpret works of art that appear in public spaces as an alternative to traditional exhibition venues and methods.
3   3. To be able to question the application possibilities of a work of art as a means of individual expression in the context af associating it with the environment and space.
4   4. To have the social and civil courage to make artistic production in public spaces.

2 1. Explanation of the course description, scope, operation and resources.
3 2. Public space and its definition.
4 3. Art movements shaped by the leadership of Dada and Marcel Duchamp.
5 4. Examples of works of art performed in public spaces and discussions on them.
6 5. In this context, information and discussions about the movements and works related to alternative art searches in the 1960s (performance, happenin', environmental art, etc.).
7 6. Examples of studies carried out in this context today and discussions about them.
8 7. Discussions on the communication and interaction of such studies with the environment and society.
9 8. Use of public space in biennials and similar contemporary art events.

11 10. Midterm exam, (submission of homework prepared on the topics covered).
