Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to comprehend the importance of palliative and end-of-life care, to discuss care models, to realize the role of nurses in planning advanced end-of-life care that can be given to oncology patients, and to help individuals and families prepare for the upcoming death.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the importance of palliative and end-of-life care in the life cycle
2   Recognizing the palliative and end-of-life care needs of oncology patients and their families
3   To be able to prepare the patient and his family for the approaching death
4   To understand the role of the oncology nurse in the palliative and end-of-life period and the importance of team collaboration

- Addressing the subject in patient education material and using the information will be evaluated.
- His command of the subject and handling up-to-date information will be evaluated in the preparation of the presentation.
- In the final exam; interpreting, remembering, making decisions, explaining, classifying and combining information will be evaluated.
- It is expected that homework and reports will be prepared in computer environment according to APA format.

Assessment Criteria

- In this course, the student is responsible for developing educational material for the patient and his family by using developmental theories, individual and family education principles, and innovations in the nursing care of the oncology patient. It will be considered as a midterm exam.
- The student's presentation skills, preparation for the subject and participation in the discussions will be evaluated.
- In the final exam; interpreting, remembering, making decisions, explaining, classifying and combining information will be evaluated.
