Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the formation mechanism of cancers, its etiology, the frequency of cancer in our country and in the world, cancer prevention and early diagnosis methods, the role of the nurse in planning advanced care in cancer, treatment methods, physical symptoms related to treatment, the most common types of cancer, cancer patients and individuals with cancer. knowing the problems experienced by the family and planning nursing interventions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to comprehend the role of the nurse in the care of the oncology patient related to the causes of cancer formation.
2   To be able to plan the care of the oncology patient for the solution of the problems that may occur in the patient due to the treatment methods in cancer
3   Knowing the most common cancer types in the world and in Turkey and planning their care
4   Knowing the emergency situations of oncology patients and discussing their management
5   To be able to comprehend the importance of the rehabilitation process in the care of the oncology patient.

- In this course, the student is responsible for developing educational material for the patient and his family by using developmental theories, individual and family education principles, and innovations in the nursing care of the oncology patient. It will be considered as a midterm exam.
- The student's presentation skills, preparation for the subject and participation in the discussions will be evaluated.
- In the final exam; interpreting, remembering, making decisions, explaining, classifying and combining information will be evaluated.
