Course Objective

The course aims to create visuals with original calligraphic and typographic texts based on types. It aims to create studies on different media so that these typographic original and unique images can be used in other graphic applications. It is aimed to structure the projects of the studies to be carried out in this direction by the students. Students are released in terms of method, material and presentation.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to combine the knowledge and skills gained through calligraphy and typography with new methods and use them creatively in design management
2   To be able to have knowledge of software and materials and to be able to associate this knowledge with the right field
3   Being able to present projects in an unexpected and creative way
4   Accessing free expression beyond basic design principles

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Week 1: Meeting and sharing information about the course content, processing and materials used in the course.
2 Week 2: What is Lettering What is calligraphy Study and discussion on examples. Research topics are given.
3 Week 3: Evaluations are made on the visual and literary material obtained from the researches. Material information is given.
4 Week 4: Exercise work begins.
5 Week 5: The texts are chosen while continuing the exercises. Work begins on the selected text.
6 Week 6: While continuing to work on the selected text, the layout and font selection is considered. Similar work samples are collected and examined.
7 Week 7: Text arrangement is finalized by paying attention to the layout and font harmony.
8 Week 8: Calligraphy work is finalized and evaluated.
9 Week 9: A concept is chosen for the lettering work. A text suitable for the concept is found and projected.
10 Week 10: Layout is determined according to the content of the project. Sketch studies are done.
11 Week 11: The number of typefaces to be used is determined according to the content and layout of the project. Sketch work is done.
12 Week 12: Sketch works are converted to original work.
13 Week 13: The lettering work is evaluated together with its final regulations.
14 Week 14: Calligraphy and Lettering works are evaluated together.
