Course Objective

Learning the material selection and processing for the design of the necessary spaces for the production of Stop-motion Animation. It aims to gain the ability to apply designs to a three-dimensional real environment.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding the concept of space in stop-motion animated films.
2   Recognition of the necessary materials for the realization of the Stop-Motion set.
3   To learn the use of necessary tools for the realization of the Stop-Motion set.
4   Developing aesthetic knowledge of Stop-Motion sets.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 General information will be given on the presentation of the course and the supply of materials required for the construction of stop motion sets.
2 General information will be given on the preliminary preparations required to transform an object designed in two dimensions into a three-dimensional model by scaling.
3 Information will be given on the basic equipment and auxiliary tools to be used during the production of stop motion set and modeling, and a practical introduction will be made on how they should be used.
4 Students will be required to repeat the equipment applications under the supervision of the instructor of the course.
5 The scaled production of a simple object from two dimensions to three dimensions will be explained practically and the homework on the subject will be explained.
6 Assignments will be evaluated and discussed and scaling; will be reapplied on a detailed object in two dimensions. Practices will be evaluated at the end of the course.
7 Midterm
8 Information will be given about the materials used to produce texture in the field of stop motion space and plastic modeling and their alternatives, and a practical explanation will be made about the production of realistic textures in stop motion sets using various materials.
9 Students will be given applications on the production of realistic textures, surfaces and forms with various simple materials that will be requested from the students and these applications will be evaluated at the end of the course.
10 Information will be given on the criteria to be followed when choosing materials for the production of objects designed in two dimensions, and a research paper on the subject will be explained.
11 Assignments will be evaluated and discussed, and applications will be made in accordance with the themes in the content of the homework by using the materials brought as a result of the research.
12 The subject of transforming a real object that exists on a large scale into a stop motion space by scaling it down will be explained, and a research and material-prepared project assignment on this subject will be explained.
13 After the evaluation of the research and project assignment, the stop motion venue application and details of the project will be processed to increase the realism and credibility of the project.
14 A general repetition of the course period will be made.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lessons
The lecturer directs the students to produce projects and asks them to practice on examples.
During the review and examination of new technologies, application studio practices and homework, the application skills to be encountered will be demonstrated by the faculty member in the first and last hour of the course every week. Students will be strongly encouraged to participate in class discussions and to present their ideas and opinions regarding the preparation of their projects.
Applications
During the application process, students are shown examples of how to use a method during the production phase. Informed students are expected to do a similar experiment over a three-week period.

1. It is compulsory to attend 70% of the course.
2. Not attending the course will not be considered as a valid excuse for late submission of assignments and projects.
3. Projects that exceed the project delivery date and time will not be accepted.
