Course Objective

This lecture aims to examine architectural styles, arts of painting and sculpture and furniture styles of periods from ancient civilizations to 16th century in which Renaissance advanced. It is aimed for pupils to adopt in what way geography and way of lifes affected on artistical styles and to teach how principal historical styles could be staged in parallel with text of play in a version.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To have convenient design for historical plays through creating sucstructure of stage design and have enough artistical and cultural knowledge to enable him to perform implementation,
2   To have enuogh theoretical knowledge of style of period belonging to the implementations he has done for stage design,
3   To be able to develop himself by adopting the importance of life-long education, by watching the progress of such fields as architecture, painting and textile and, by getting these fields into touch with theatre.
4   To be able to evaluate theoretical information about architecture, fashion and sense of art belonging to historaical periods in stage design field in the light of information he gets in implementation fields,
5   To have enough information and knowledge in the issues of design information and implementation for stage design.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods


1.LECTURES
The lecturer introduces the students architectural elements belonging to different cultures and eras that can be used in costume design field of stage design; samples of painting and sculpture, decoration patterns that are different in different eras. Based on the arts of painting and photography, he aims to teach his students and evaluation of visual data in these arts and learning techniques that will enable them to reach the information that illuminates the period they were created. He asks therotecial and visual information belonging to different styles that are used in play decor and costume design to be adopted in a way that addresses today s theatre sensibility and audience and researches to be transferred as assignment presentation in class.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Firstly in lecture evaluation, the criteria below is to be followed and the marking system is to be done according to these criteria:
Attendance of class,
Taking the class with necessary preparation,
Delivery and presentation of homework on time,
Doing enough source research for homework,
Paying regard to scientific standards in presentation.

The mark obtained from attendance of class (1) depends on the fact of attendance to class (2), the quality of response the students gives to the questions of lecturor during class and student s effort on studying in order to create a positive education environment.

Getting enough mark to pass the class
Presentation of homework given on time and complete
Active participation into class

Course Policies and Rules

70% percentage of attendance to class is obligatory
Diciplinary punishment is to be inflicted for every kind of plagiarism attempt.
Not attending to class is not accepted as valid excuse for delivery of homework and projects late.
In delayed project delivey, the score equal to a letter-mark is to be dropped for each of the days delayed.
