Course Objective

In this course, it is aimed to explain periodontal surgery indications, treatment methods, suture techniques and materials, wound healing and definition and treatment of furcation lesions and classification of peri-implant disease and treatment option of the peri-implant diseases.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To be bale to classify the general and specific indications of periodontal surgery
2   2. To be able to define various periodontal surgical methods in treating periodontitis.
3   3. To be able to define various suturing techniques used in periodontal surgery
4   4. To be able to define the furcation lesions and to clssify different regenerative treatment modalities.
5   5. To be able to clssify different treatment approaches to infrabony defects.
6   6. To be able to define mucogingival surgerical procedures and to be able to address the mucogingival surgical procedure needed for a specific case.
7   7. To be abe to classify various treatment protocols of periodontitis
8   8. To be able to define the similarities and differences between the periodontal and periimplanter tissues.
9   9. To know classification of peri-implant diseases and treatment option of these diseases.

Assessment Criteria

1- List the methods, indications and contraindications of surgical periodontal treatment
2- Counts the hand tools used in periodontal surgery methods
3- List the different suture techniques in periodontal surgery.
4- Counts the intraosseous defects, specifies the regenerative methods.
5- Lists the indications of mucogingival surgery.
6-Knows and counts the differences of peri-implant tissues from periodontal tissue.
