Course Objective

To educate dentistry students about patient history, intra-oral and extra-oral examination methods, systemic diseases in dentistry, basics of radiology and dental radiography techniques to make correct diagnosis and treatment planning.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Defines examination and diagnostic techniques for patient evaluation
2   Describes the normal anatomical structures in the oral cavity with their non-pathological variants
3   Defines the oral manifestations of systemic diseases and defines complications related to systemic diseases
4   Will be able to understand the basics and mechanism of x-ray formation and explain the physycs of x-rays
5   Applies appropriate methods for dental radiography on patients
6   Explains the image errors and fixes

Assessment Criteria

1. Should be able to define examination and diagnostic techniques for patient evaluation,
2. Should be able to define the normal anatomical structures in the oral cavity with their non-pathological variants,
3. Define the oral manifestations of systemic diseases and describe complications related to systemic diseases during dental treatment.
4. Should be able to explain the basics and mechanism of x-ray formation and explain the physical properties of x-rays.
5. Should be able to apply appropriate methods for dental radiography on patients.
6. Should be able to interpret, explain and correct radiographic image errors.
