Course Objective

To have information about the general characteristics of microorganisms, virulence factors and microorganism-host relationships, disease-causing mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment methods. To have knowledge about the basic building blocks of the immune system, its functioning and the immunological basis of allergic diseases.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Classification of bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses that cause local or systemic infections in humans
2   To be able to count the microorganisms that make up the normal body flora
3   To be able to distinguish infectious diseases caused by microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites).
4   Explain the pathogenesis of microorganisms.
5   To be able to explain the principles of taking samples from the patient and transport for diagnostic tests in infectious diseases caused by microorganisms.
6   To be able to count the tests applied to microorganisms for the purpose of diagnosis.
7   Counting immune system cells
8   To be able to explain the immune system responses against microorganisms.
9   To be able to count active and passive immunity methods
10   To be able to enumerate the mechanisms of action and resistance of antimicrobial drugs.
11   To be able to count sterilization and disinfection methods
