Course Objective

The aim of the course is to enable the students to learn the structures and functions of biomolecules which are the building blocks of living organisms, and to comprehend the functioning and regulation of human metabolism.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the molecular basics of life and chemical properties of biomolecules
2   To be able to define the structure and properties and to classify the biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, proteins, nucleic acids)
3   To be able to define and classify enzymes, to understand the regulation of enzyme activity
4   To understand the metabolism of biomolecules and the interrelationship of biochemical pathways
5   To correlate the metabolism of biomolecules with diseases
6   To understand the integration and regulation of metabolism
7   To understand the basic concepts of nutrition
8   To understand the importance and role of vitamins, macro and micro elements in the metabolism
