Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enhance students' ability to create creative and artistic works by combining photography with digital games. Digital games have reached a wide audience today, and in-game photography has become increasingly popular within the gaming community. This course aims to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in digital game photography, offering them the experience of producing photographs in virtual spaces. Students will be able to capture aesthetically rich photographs from virtual scenes by immersing themselves in the inner world of games and adopting different perspectives.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding the concepts of digital game photography and having sufficient knowledge about the visual aesthetics of digital games.
2   The ability to engage in in-game photography using camera modes and other equipment available in digital games.
3   The capability to produce creative and aesthetically rich photographs from scenes within the game.
4   Applying basic and advanced editing techniques used in digital game photography.
5   Analyzing successful examples of in-game photography in popular games and examining their techniques.
6   Gaining hands-on experience in producing photographs in virtual spaces and developing individual projects in the field of digital game photography.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Theoretical Lessons:
Exposition: Theoretical information on digital game photography concepts, visual aesthetics, camera mode, and equipment usage will be explained through presentations, videos, and examples.
Discussion: Ethical and aesthetic dimensions of photography in digital games, in-game photography examples in different games, and current developments in this field will be addressed through class discussions.
Practical Lessons:
Workshop Activities: Students will practice photography exercises using the camera mode and equipment in selected games.
Creative Projects: They will produce original photographs using the learned techniques and aesthetic approaches through individual or group projects.
Critique and Evaluation: Student work will be presented in a classroom setting and reinforced with constructive criticism and evaluation.

Research and Experimentation: Experimenting with different games and photography techniques, being open to research.
Presentation: Clarity, impact, and originality of the visual and written presentation of the project.
