Course Objective

To understand the pregnancy physiology in pet species, the potential pathologies that may occur in the mother and offspring during pregnancy, the hormonal mechanisms, physiology, and course of normal birth, the challenges of difficult births and assistance interventions, the physiology and problems of the puerperium period, and the care and necessary interventions for the mother and offspring during the perinatal period.

2   Knows the pathological conditions that may occur during pregnancy.
3   Knows the physiology of normal birth.
4   Knows the challenges of difficult births and intervention strategies for difficult births.
5   Knows the physiology of the puerperium period.
6   Knows the potential issues and treatment approaches during the puerperium.
7   Knows the care to be given to the mother during the perinatal/postnatal period.
8   Knows the care to be given to the offspring during the postnatal period.

Assessment Criteria

The student will be evaluated based on the questions asked in the midterm and final exams. Additionally, presentations and research assignments given throughout the term will be taken into account for the evaluation of the overall performance.
