Course Objective

To convey the metabolic issues that predominantly develop postpartum and are associated with giving birth, along with treatment approaches, to explain the causes and treatment options for preventing infertility. To ensure an understanding of fertility control programs and assisted reproductive techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The student gains knowledge about metabolic disorders in pets and their prevention and solutions.
2   The student acquires knowledge about the causes of infertility, prevention, and treatment options.
3   The student becomes knowledgeable about fertility control programs.
4   The student knows assisted reproductive techniques and has knowledge about their implementation.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Spesific infections may be resulted in abortion in farm animals.
2 Spesific infections may be resulted in abortion in horse, dog and cat .
3 Problems of puerperal period.
4 Uterine prolapsus. Postpartum uterine infections: acute metritis, subacute metritis.
5 Metabolic diseases: hypocalcemia in cows, pregnancy toxemia in sheeps, lactation tetany in mares and eclampsia in dogs.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1. Delivery of the course using PowerPoint-supported oral and visual presentation, including question-and-answer sessions.
2. Practical teaching of the course using materials from farms and abattoirs.
3. Addressing lingering questions and reinforcing learning through discussions before and after the class.
4. Encouraging student interest and motivation for learning through research and presentation assignments given throughout the term.

Assessment Criteria

The student will be evaluated based on the questions asked in the midterm and final exams. Additionally, research assignments and presentations given throughout the term will be used to increase the student's interest in the course.

The responsibility for attending 70% of the theoretical classes throughout the term lies with the student. Compliance with the scheduled class times and assignment submission deadlines, if requested, is required. Actions regarding any unethical behavior that may occur during classes and exams will be addressed within the framework of the relevant regulations.
