Course Objective

To learn the nutritional physiology and basic gastrointestinal functions, the functions and control mechanisms of the respiratory and urinary systems and the structure, function, task and control mechanisms of the cardiovascular system according to animal species. It is aimed to emphasize the functional and functional aspects of the reproductive and endocrine system.

3   Explains the control mechanisms of the cardiovascular system.

7   Knows and explains endocrine systems and control mechanisms.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Physiology of Digestive System Introduction to the digestive system, definition of herbivores and carnivores, the concept of balanced nutrition, food intake, hunger, satiety, thirst, water drinking and sucking, vomiting, chewing, saliva and glands, salivary component, salivary secretion stages, swallowing and its stages, neural control of swallowing, ructus.
2 Physiology of Digestive System Gastric secretion, bowel movements, liver and pancreas, gastric movements, filling and emptying of the stomach, bowel movements, intestinal secretion, bile and pancreatic secretions and their control.
3 Physiology of Digestive System Digestion in the small intestines, carbohydrate digestion and absorption, lipid digestion and absorption, protein digestion and absorption, absorption of electrolytes, absorption of vitamins.
4 Physiology of Digestive System Ruminant stomachs and digestive physiology in ruminates.
5 Physiology of Cardiovascular System Blood Circulation, ECG (Electrocardiography) and Peripheral Circulation; general structure of the heart, physiological characteristics of the heart muscle, initiation and conduction of stimulation in the heart, external nerves of the heart, heart sounds.
6 Physiology of Cardiovascular System Cardiac stroke volume, cardiac output, Starling's heart law, cardiac cycle, electrocardiography, arterial system, vena system, capillary system, blood flow in veins.
7 Physiology of Cardiovascular System Blood Pressure, factors affecting blood pressure, circulation in capillaries, special circulation areas.
8 Physiology of Respiratory System The respiratory system; respiratory organs, inspiration, expiration, lung volume, alveolar ventilation, intrapulmanic and intratrocal pressure, lung surface tension, respiratory volumes, lung capacities, different respiratory movements, respiratory rates, hypoxia and cyanosis concepts.
9 Physiology of Respiratory System and Urinary System Respiratory centers, oxygen and carbohydrate transport, acidosis alkalosis, respiration in poultry. Excretory system; blood circulation in kidney, nephron, glomerulus, proximal tubules, loop of henle, distal tubules, collecting ducts.
10 Physiology of Urinary System Jugstaglomerular apparatus in the kidney, functions of proximal tubules, tubular secretion, condensation of urine by loop of Henle and vasa rectan, functions of distal tubules, kidney metabolism, urination.
11 Physiology od Endocrine System Endocrine System; definition and classification of hormones, mechanisms of action of hormones, control of hormone secretion, hormones of hypothalamus and pituitary gland, functions of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands.
12 Physiology od Endocrine System Adrenal gland hormones and their effects, medulla hormones and their effects. Pancreatic gland and its hormones and effects, diabetes mellitus, other glands.
13 Physiology of Female Reproductive System Female reproductive system, nervous and hormonal control, ovaries, oogenesis, ovarian hormones, ovulation, estrus, placenta hormones, fertilization.
14 Physiology of Male Reproductive System Male reproductive system, testicles, spermatogenesis, hormone secretion from testicles, blood testicular barrier, epididymis, erection and ejaculation in penis.
