Course Objective

The focus of this course is on the application and interpretation of cancer studies using biomarkers. Topics include biomarkers, biomarkers related to exposure, metabolism / activation and other biological pathways, intermediates / endpoints, early cancer detection and prognosis. In each subject, examples are discussed to illustrate different issues in the interpretation of the results. The class will be devoted to theoretical lectures, article readings and discussions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows the concept of biomarker in cancer prevention.
2   Reach databases related to cancer biomarkers.
3   Will be able to understand cancer biomarkers by reading in literature.
4   Define different biomarkers according to cancer types.
5   Follow the publications related to biomarkers in cancer research.
