: Criminal Law (Non-Thesis-Evening)

General Description

History

Masters Degree Program in Economic Law (non-thesis) is founded within the scope of department of public law. According to the article 20 of D.E.U Regulations of Postgraduate Education the object of Graduates Program with thesis is gaining deep knowledge on vocational issues and practicing of existing knowledge. In this direction, the object of program is providing specialization of students who are graduated from law faculty.
This program is intended for lawyers who have internalized the principles of the universal law and have competency of legal legislation and the fundamental legal concepts and rules. Through a competency based education process, the national and international developments are analyzed legally and the ability of solving and identifying of legal disputes and conflicts is improved. The ability of legal reasoning is deepened by comparative and critical thinking ability.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

This program is intended for lawyers who have internalized the universal principles of law and have competency of legal legislation and the fundamental legal concepts and rules. The language of education of the program is Turkish.

2   Able to perform his profession by comprehending a secular democratic legal system based on human rights.
3   Aware of social, professional and scientific ethical principles.
4   Has an expert level knowledge on criminal law and inter disciplinary criminal law legislation.
5   Has the capacity to advance professional knowledge on criminal law and other common fields of law by following current literature and use this knowledge in academic works.
6   Has the ability to identify and solve, discuss legal problems, develop scientific proposals based on facts and research in the field of criminal law .
7   Has the capacity to evaluate the legal consequences of illegality within the perspective of crime-misdemeanour distinction.
8   Has information on the historical evolution of individual and social rights and international documents.
9   Has information on the importance and function of the criminal litigation and its principles.
10   Has the information on legal methodology to solve legal disputes and academic works.
11   Has knowledge on the activities of the actors and institutions involving in criminal litigation and legal consequences of illegal actions.
12   Has the capacity of life-long learning and following the developments in this area.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member / s and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 75 ECTS), Term Project (15 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
