General Description
History |
Laboratory Animal Science is a multidisciplinary department established with the approval of The Council of Higher Education in 2003 within the DEU Health Science Institute. Medical faculty members from basic sciences (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Histology and Embryology) and clinical sciences (Anesthesiology and Reanimation) are involved in our department. Ph.D Program of Laboratory Animal Science was started education in 2011. The duration of the program is totally 8 semesters involved lessons and thesis. The language of the program is Turkish. |

Specific Admission Requirements |
Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee. |
Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal) |
A successful student who has completed at least one semester at any postgraduate programme may be admitted to an institute at the University by lateral transfer. Requirements for admission of students by lateral transfer are determined by the Board of Directors of the Institute.Students who have matriculated after they have successfully passed the postgraduate entrance exam may be exempted from the courses they have already taken in other institutes upon the proposal of the relevant department and the approval of the Board of Directors of the Institute. However, the total credits of the exempted courses cannot exceed 1/3 of the credits required to finish the relevant programme. |

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree) Program is comprised of courses, (at least 78 ECTS), field study (12 ECTS) and thesis (150 ECTS), in total 240 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades. |
Profile of the Programme |
Laboratory Animal Science Department started the Ph.D. program in 2011. The aims of this program are using the basic knowledge and skills related to laboratory animals production, breeding, housing, feeding, care, diseases, related, welfare and based on this information do research, to develop new technologies, to follow the literature related to the field and must have the ability to share that information in scientific environment . The program includes a compulsory lesson with elective lessons of laboratory animal science in different fields. Students may also select lessons from other departments, institutions and universities. |

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading |
The assessment criteria for each course are defined in the Course Description Form included in the information pack prepared by the faculty member/members. The relevant items of the DEU Undergraduate, Graduate Education-Training and Exam Regulations and Instutie Examination Regulations apply in relation to exams and course grades. To be successful in this course must be received at least 75. |
