General Description

History

Telecommunications Technician program in DEU Izmir Vocational School of Technical Programs, offers undergraduate education since 1986. Each year, our program fulfills an important function in education by providing educated labor force in the field of telecommunications technology in the Aegean region and across the country.
The student who complete Industrial Based Learning besides pass the all theoretical and practical courses in the curriculum has right to take a Telecommunication Technician Diploma.

Vocational high school diploma or high school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter institutional credit transfer and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate. The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management.

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK) The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in Graduate Transfer Guide and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam. According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing.

Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The student must complete 2 years of study acquiring 120 (ECTS) credits. This degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum, compulsory 40 days of internship and have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.

Profile of the Programme

Telecommunications Technican Programme which was established in 1986 has education duration of two years / four semesters. In the first year of study, the students take fundamental courses such as introduction of communication studies, circuit analysis, analog electronic and university pool foundation courses such as History of Turkish Revolution and Foreign Language. In the second year, they choose from a wide range of subjects, including networking basics, computer aided design and modelling, digital communication, advanced communication systems, satellite communications, fiber optic and communication system design.

Practical and theoretical knowledge with professional enhanced study contents are conducted in our classrooms and the laboratory. The programme provides 8 weeks (40 days required) vocational training to the second grade students in the telecommunication industry. These students are placed within the sector in a role negotiated between themselves, school and the employer. The language of instruction in the programme is Turkish. The programme has a total of 100 students (at first grade, formal education 50 and evening education 50 students) and 4 highly qualified lecturers. The laboratory, which was financed by YOK World Bank project, is furnished with state of the art equipments. The programme collaborates with private sector and government agencies. As a result, they provide interships and technical travel opportunities.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Program graduates have sufficient knowledge in mathematics, science and the implementation of the telecommunication issues in these areas.
2   Program graduates have knowledge regarding available materials and their selection in telecommunication sector.
3   Program graduates have knowledge of planning and organizing ateliers and operating plants in telecommunication sector.
4   Program graduates have ability to follow developing technologies with his/her acquired knowledge.
5   Program graduate carry out a basic level study on his/her own, collect, analyze and interpret the data and prepare the final report in order to examine a problem regarding telecommunication technologies.
6   Program graduates take responsibility as a team member in order to solve the problems encountered in the applications of telecommunication area; he/she who has the conscious of the necessity of lifelong learning renews his/herself continuously to access knowledge.
7   Program graduates use one computer software required by the field at least and information and communication technologies in a basic level.
8   Program graduates act according to professional ethics to provide the occupational health and safety in the field
9   Program graduates have ability to use at least one computer programming language and a foreign language in the extent required by the profession.
10   Program graduates inculcate to be a patient individual with responsibility consciousness and moral values required by the profession.
11   Program graduates have the respect of historical values, and have the conscious of global, social and professional ethics and also social responsibility.
12   Program graduates have ability to design and draw the professional plans and projects by using a computer drawing or simulation program in his/her filed.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

This degree enables the holder to exercise the profession.
Program graduates can find jobs in public institutions such as TRT, in marketing and technical departments of the firms operates in telecommunication sector.

Access to Further Studies

According to the "Regulation on the Continuation of Undergraduate Education for Open Education Associate Degree Programs" and Vocational Schools" Graduates", the Vocational School Graduates, who wish to continue to the Undergraduate Degree, may register to the relevant departments by entering and succeeding the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS). Graduated students may apply to bachelors programmes in related fields of study such as Electrical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics, Telecommunications, Control Systems, Meteorology, Aeronautical and Aviation Electronics, Aircraft Electrical and Electronics Engineering Departments in the Faculty of Engineering and Physics Department in the Faculty of Science by an examination administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre.

The courses in the curriculum belong to their semester. There is no prerequisite course in the curriculum. Percentages of the distance education courses of the total ECTS is 39.16%. In the second class, students can perform industrial based learning (40 days compulsory) lesson in the telecommunication industries.
