Course Objective

The purpose of this lecture is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the key concepts in medicinal chemistry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understanding the fundamental principles and scope of medicinal chemistry, the processes of drug discovery and development, and the importance of physicochemical properties.
2   Describing how drugs interact with biological targets (such as receptors, enzymes, and nucleic acids) and explaining their mechanisms of action.
3   Interpreting structure activity relationships (SAR) and applying strategies including optimization and prodrug development in drug design.
4   Comparing the chemical and biological principles in the design of antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer agents.
5   Learning about current trends in modern drug design and major challenges such as resistance, selectivity, and emerging technologies.
