Course Objective

To have a comprehensive understanding of biochemistry and molecular biology. The
nature of the major macromolecules will be discussed with particular focus on: proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, and lipids. Their molecular structure, chemical reactions, and practical methods in characterization will be discussed. Students will also learn how to interpret experimental molecular biochemistry results and devise new experiments.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Learning proteins structure, chemical reactions and characterization techniques
2   2. Learning nucleic acids structure, chemical reactions and characterization techniques
3   3. Learning carbohydrates structure, chemical reactions and characterization techniques
4   4. Learning lipids structure, chemical reactions and characterization techniques
5   5. Learning how to interpret experimental molecular biochemistry results and devise new experiments
