Course Objective

The aim of this course is to explore the biological basis of emotions, their interaction with other cognitive processes, and their relationship with psychopathology. The course will examine the neurobiological and psychological foundations of emotions, and how emotional processing is disrupted in various psychological disorders, as well as the impact of these disruptions on individual functioning. Within this framework, the role of emotions in the emergence and maintenance of psychopathology will be discussed from the perspective of cognitive neuroscience.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Discusses the biological and cognitive foundations of emotions.
2   Describes emotional processing and emotion regulation deficits in psychopathology.
3   Identifies difficulties in emotion recognition and emotion processing in each psychological disorders.
4   Examines specific psychological disorders within the context of emotions.
