Course Objective

aims to teach students introductory manufacturing methods. During the course, students learn modern/classical manufacturing methods currently used by the industry.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Lists and explains basic information about the principles and areas of use of manufacturing methods.
2   Summarizes the superiority, limitations and application areas of manufacturing methods compared to each other.
3   Defines and selects the equipment used in manufacturing methods.
4   Selects the most appropriate manufacturing method for a specific machine part at the design stage.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Introduction to casting technology, classification of casting methods, metallurgical principles, solidification, models.
2 Sand mold casting, mold materials, molding machines, shell mold casting, precision casting method.
3 Permanent mold casting, pressure casting, centrifugal casting, melting furnaces, finishing processes.
4 Classification of welding methods and physical principles, gas welding and cutting methods.
5 Arc welding methods and equipment.
6 Advanced welding methods and equipment.
7 Classification of plastic forming methods, mechanical and metallurgical principles.
8 Mass and hot forming methods, rolling, forging, Extrusion.
9 Hot and cold forming methods, Wire drawing, Sheet metal processing methods, Cutting, Bending, Stretching, Drawing, Deep drawing, Presses.
10 Classification and physical principles of chip removal methods, chip formation, tools and tool life.
11 Turning, drilling and machining, reciprocating and planing methods and benches.
12 Milling, broaching processes and benches, gear cutting and gear manufacturing, grinding and precision surface treatment methods.
13 Chemical and electrochemical processes, Powder metallurgy, Comparison of manufacturing methods.
