Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach the role of physiotherapy in the geriatric palliative care process, assessment methods, and applicable physiotherapy approaches.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Explain the fundamental principles of palliative care in geriatrics and its relationship with physiotherapy.
2   2. Describe common diseases in the palliative care process for older adults and related physiotherapy approaches.
3   3. Plan and apply physiotherapy approaches for pain, fatigue, mobility, and respiratory management in palliative care.
4   4. Evaluate and implement the role of physiotherapy in managing cachexia, frailty, and sarcopenia in palliative care.
5   5. Apply basic principles of psychosocial support and communication with patients and families in the palliative care process.
6   6. Analyze and implement alternative and complementary physiotherapy approaches in palliative care.
