Course Objective

This course was planned to evaluate the role of the physiotherapist in preventing falls, which are an important public problem and cause of morbidity and mortality in the elderly, and to provide information about rehabilitation practices aimed at preventing falls.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Can define falls in the elderly.
2   2. Can list the causes and risk factors of falls in the elderly.
3   3. Can perform a physiotherapy assessment to assess the risk of falls.
4   4. Have knowledge of current literature including programs to prevent falls.
5   5. Can create an exercise prescription to reduce the risk of falls.
6   6. Recognize the disciplines involved in falls prevention programs, know the importance of teamwork, and know the role of the physiotherapist in the team.
