Course Objective

To ensure that students gain awareness of how to minimize the effects of disasters on individuals and society and how to behave before, during and after a disaster.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain what needs to be done before disasters and emergencies.
2   Lists what needs to be done during and after disasters and emergencies.
3   Students explain the reasons that turn natural events into disasters.
4   Gain disaster culture and sensitivity.
5   Have detailed information about all disasters.
6   Lists the precautions to be taken against disasters and emergencies

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lecture, reading, active participation in the class, discussion. This course will be taught in the form of theoretical lectures in the classroom and applications of theoretical subjects in practice courses. While the instructor explains the subjects and has them practice, he/she will create a discussion environment with the students in the form of questions and answers.

Assessment Criteria

Meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in presentations, association of concepts with each other, establishing the cause-result relationships and making comments by using the information available for problems and evaluating idea generation are carried out with mid-term and final exams, active participation to the lecture, homework.
