Course Objective

The aim of this course is to increase students' ability to survive in nature. To increase their interest in nature.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Create a safe campsite. Performs camp breakdown.
2   Learn about making fire in nature.
3   Knows search and rescue signs.
4   Demonstrates ethical behavior.
5   First aid is applied in difficult situations in nature.
6   Learn about finding water in nature.
7   Learning about shelter in nature and edibles.
8   Learning about edible and inedible products in nature.

1 Survival materials
2 How to light a fire, campfire, types of tinder and preparation
3 Fishing and methods, types of fish, baits and cooking
4 Shelter making and types of shelter
5 Edible seeds and fruits, poisonous plants
6 Desert types, desert travel and appropriate clothing
7 Life on a life raft
8 Edible invertebrates, poisonous invertebrates
9 Midterm Exam
10 First aid in injuries, Establishing a safe campsite
11 Sod-made adobe house, log cabin, tent setup
12 Deterioration of the campsite
13 Water in nature; sources, purification, where to look for, diseases
14 Search and rescue signals; aircraft management, Morse code, use of markers

Assessment Criteria

Midterm and final exams will be held to evaluate the students' meaningful learning of the basic concepts given in the presentations, their ability to relate the concepts to each other, to establish cause-effect relationships, to comment on questions or problems using their existing knowledge, and to evaluate their idea generation.
