Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the development processes, social and cultural contexts of contemporary Turkish literature in different geographies. Students will try to understand the dynamics and diversity of contemporary literature by analyzing various representatives and movements of Turkish literature from the beginning of the 20th century to the present. They will also explore the relationship and interactions of modern Turkish literature with other world literatures.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Explains the historical development of contemporary Turkish literature and its reflections in different geographies.
2   2. Recognize and analyze Turkish literary movements of the 20th century and beyond.
3   3. Evaluates the works of important representatives of contemporary Turkish literature.
4   4. Discusses the relationship between Turkish literature and contemporary literary movements in the world.
5   5. Comparatively interprets the technical and thematic innovations used in different Turkish literatures.
6   6. Examines the effects of literature in social, political and cultural contexts.
7   7. Gains in-depth knowledge of contemporary Turkish poetry, novels, stories and theatre.
8   8. Discusses the modernization process in Turkish literature and its effects on literature.
