Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the development, characteristics and important representatives of the modernism movement in Turkish literature. It is aimed to investigate how modernism transformed Turkish literature and how this transformation was reflected in literary texts in terms of language, form, theme and content. The course aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of the impact of modernism in literary history by examining the parallels and differences between Turkish modernism and modernism in the West.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Defines the basic characteristics of the modernism movement and its place in literary history.
2   2. Discusses the development of modernism in Turkish literature and its important representatives.
3   3. Analyzes the effects of modernism on language, form and theme in Turkish literature.
4   4. Evaluates the similarities and differences between Western modernism and Turkish modernism.
5   5. Examines the relationship between Turkish modernism and literature and social change.
6   6. Analyzes the works of modernist Turkish poets and writers.
7   7. Discusses how modernist movements in Turkish literature were shaped in social, cultural and political contexts.
8   8. Evaluates the effects of modernist literary movements on contemporary Turkish literature.
