Course Objective

The aim of this course is to examine the role of language as a carrier of culture and in ensuring social harmony, beyond being a means of communication. The relationships between language, culture and identity and the effects of language on harmony in multicultural societies will be addressed with an interdisciplinary approach.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understand the function of language as a part and carrier of culture.
2   To understand and evaluate the role of language in intercultural communication.
3   To discuss the effects of language on harmony in multicultural societies.
4   To analyze the language-culture-harmony relationship with examples from different geographies.
5   To emphasize the strategic importance of language teaching in intercultural harmony processes.
