Course Objective

Understanding human cultures and the nature of law.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to comprehend and articulate the concepts of nature and culture, their interrelation with the concept of human nature, and the evolutionary development of human nature.
2   To be able to demonstrate an informed understanding of the foundational themes and debates in anthropology and legal anthropology, and to analyze legal phenomena through an anthropological lens.
3   To be able to identify the interconnections between law and concepts such as power, authority, violence, domination, and power relations, and to formulate a critical perspective.
4   To be able to analyze the emergence and characteristics of diverse legal systems within their specific cultural contexts.
5   To be able to explicate the fundamental concepts concerning the origins of the state, the modern state, and modern legal systems, and to engage in the theoretical debates surrounding them.
