Course Objective

The aim of this course is to understand how human language develops in biological, cultural and social contexts; to examine the evolutionary processes of language and the effects of these processes on modern languages with an interdisciplinary approach.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. To learn the basic theories and approaches to the evolution of language.
2   2. To understand the biological and neurological basis of human language.
3   3. To analyze the historical change processes of languages and to learn about language families.
4   4. To discuss the effects of cultural, social and technological evolution of language on language structures.
5   5. To evaluate the contributions of linguistics, evolutionary biology and anthropology to the development of language.
