Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the basic grammatical structures and written sources of Ottoman Turkish; to provide grammar, word structure, spelling rules and text analysis skills of Ottoman Turkish.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Learn the basic grammar rules of Ottoman Turkish.
2   2. Gain the ability to analyze and interpret Ottoman Turkish texts.
3   3. Have knowledge about literary genres of the Ottoman period.
4   4. Understands the spelling and orthographic rules of Ottoman Turkish.
5   5. Can analyze the differences between Türkiye Turkish and Ottoman Turkish.
6   6. Be able to understand and analyze the historical and cultural context of texts written in Ottoman Turkish.
