Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to introduce students to different expression methods in Turkish on a theoretical and practical level and to provide them with the ability to use these methods effectively. Throughout the course, students will examine the characteristics of expression through various text types, learn expression styles suitable for different purposes and have the opportunity to develop their own written and oral expressions. The course aims to support students' effective communication skills that they will need in their academic, professional and social lives.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Will be able to define and distinguish the basic expression methods of Turkish (explanation, discussion, narration, description, etc.).
2   2. Will be able to analyze the narrative features in different text types (article, essay, story, report, etc.).
3   3. Will be able to select and apply appropriate narrative methods for a specific purpose and target audience.
4   4. Will be able to pay attention to the correct and effective use of language in written and oral expressions.
5   5. Will be able to produce texts on various subjects using different narrative methods.
6   6. Will be able to evaluate different forms of expression by using critical thinking skills.
7   7. By improving their presentation skills, they will be able to carry out their oral expressions effectively.
8   8. Will be able to develop cooperation and communication skills through group work.

Course Contents

1 Introduction to Turkish expression methods: Basic concepts and classifications, elements of effective communication.
2 Description (explanatory narration): Definition, features, areas of use, text examples and analysis.
3 Discussion (argumentative expression): Definition, characteristics, different forms of discussion, thesis, antithesis and synthesis concepts, text examples and analysis.
4 Narration (narrative narration): Definition, characteristics, narrative elements (plot, character, time, place), text examples and analysis.
5 Description (descriptive narration): Definition, characteristics, types of description (impressionistic, objective), text examples and analysis.
6 Proof (evidentiary narration): Definition, characteristics, types of evidence (numerical data, examples, witness testimony, etc.), text examples and analysis.
7 Comparison and Contrastive Expression: Definition, characteristics, criteria of comparison, text examples and analysis.
8 Sampling and Illustrative Expression: Definition, characteristics, importance of sampling, text examples and analysis.
9 Definition and Descriptive Expression: Definition, characteristics, methods of definition, text examples and analysis.
10 Using Different Forms of Expression Together: How different forms of expression come together in a text, examples and analysis of mixed-expression texts.
11 Types of Oral Expression: Presentation, conference, panel, interview etc., principles of effective oral expression.
12 Presentation Preparation and Presentation Techniques.
13 Final
