Course Objective |
Considering that a significant portion of the worlds population lives in cities, it can be argued that disasters pose major risks for urban areas and that their impacts are felt most severely in cities. Accordingly, how cities are planned against the impacts of disasters becomes a critical issue. Within this context, the course aims to address the impacts of disasters on cities, the integration of disaster management into the urban planning process, comprehensive hazard analysis, analyses and assessments related to measuring disaster risks, planning practices that can be implemented to create more resilient and resistant cities against disasters, as well as international and national disaster policies. In this way, students will be provided with the opportunity to understand, question, and interpret disasters with their various dimensions and risks, within the framework of their relationship with urban planning in the planning process. |
