Course Objective

This course aims to discuss and evaluate the problems, planning approaches, and management styles of the region and metropolitan city. It also aims to discuss the changes in the scale of the regions and metropolitan cities, and the evolution of planning and management approaches over time.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of the this course, students will be able to describe the metropolitan cities and region,
2   to discuss the changes in approaches to regional development and regional planning,
3   to recognize the regional policies and studies of regional planning in Türkiye
4   to recognize administration and planning approaches of metropolitan city in Türkiye
5   to evaluate the importance of regional and metropolitan planning in the hierarchy of current planning.

7 Current approaches in regional development and regional planning
8 Metropolitan city, world city, urban region concepts
9 Metropolitan city planning process and its stages
10 Legal, administrative and institutional aspects of metropolitan planning
11 Examples of metropolitan planning studies from the world and Turkey
12 Midterm exam
13 Planning and implementation problems in the regional and metropolitan area
14 The Place of Regional and Metropolitan Planning in the Planning Hierarchy
