Course Objective

The aim of this course it provide students an understanding of basic concepts of research methodology. The course also provides knowledge on making scientific research as a problem solving tool.

2 The Nature of Knowledge and the Research Paradigms Epistemology, ontology, positivist vs. interpretivist approaches
3 The Research Process: Defining the Research Problem-The Literature Review
4 Theoretical Framework , Research Questions, Hypothesis

6 Qualitative Data collection methods: Interviews, Focus Groups, Case Studies
7 Qualitative Data collection methods: Participant Observation, Ethnography, Document & Content Analysis
8 Quantitative Data collection methods: Surveys & Questionnaires
9 Quantitative Data collection methods: Experimental & Quasi-Experimental Methods, Secondary Data Analysis

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Students will present their research report and will take Midterm and Final exams.

Assessment Criteria

Examination: The examination will be used to assess students' ability to understand, explain and interpret what they have learned in the course.

Assignments: Assignments will be used to assess students' ability to understand, explain and interpret topic related to research methods.

Participation and attendance: Participation in class discussions and attendance at lectures can be used to assess students' engagement with the course material and their ability to contribute to class discussions.

Project and presentation: Students are asked to develop a research proposal relevant to tourism and students present their research projects.
