Course Objective

To be able to read, analyze, and dissect selected intermediate-level musical pieces by recognizing the basic elements of music.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Be able to apply speed, dynamics, and expression terms while reading the designated solfège pieces.
2   Have knowledge of and be able to apply work strategies.
3   Be able to transfer theoretical knowledge and expertise into reading activities.
4   Be able to read with different rhythmic patterns in various time signatures.
5   Be able to explain the differences between mode, scale, and tonality.
6   Be able to explain the chord types, progressions, and symbols encountered in solfège pieces.
7   Be able to recognize alterations and modulation points in solfège pieces and explain the relationships between different tonalities.
8   Be able to read in different clefs (treble and bass).
