Course Objective

To create choral repertoire which has different period and style features, to gain sufficient skill about conduction and techniques of choir and its conduction, to be able to configure children s and youth choruses, and gain them sufficient knowledge for creating repertoire.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1- Have enough knowledge and skills about the configuration of children and youth choir,
2   2- Learn the techniques to use voice properly and to produce high quality voice and improve the ability of making music,
3   3- Learn the features of music history, acknowledges Turkish and the Word s choir literature,
4   4- Understand the techniques of education and conduction of choir,

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 What is choir conduction Configuration of choirs and the features of conductor and members.
2 The basic behaviours in choir conduction. Studies on sample composition.
3 Simple beat techniques, two-quadrant, three-quadrant, four-quadrant. Two-quadrant measure and studies on sample composition.
4 Three-quadrant measure and studies on sample composition.
5 Four-quadrant measure, entering and finishing studies in incomplete measures. Studies on sample composition.
6 Beat techniques in combined measures. Studies on sample composition.
7 Beat techniques in delayed measures. Studies on sample composition.
8 Studies on choral sound. The features of music in Baroque period. Studies on sample composition.
9 Examination.
10 The features of music in classical period and studies on sample composition.
11 The studies to gain the skills of effective interpretation and vocalization. The properties of music in romantic period and studies on sample composition.
12 The features of choral music in contemporary period and studies on sample composition.
13 The methods to follow for choir conductor in educational studies. Studies on interpretation in concert songs.
14 Study on compositions which are conducted by students for final exam.
