Course Objective

To provide music teacher candidates with behaviors related to using their voice in a healthy, correct, beautiful and effective way in speaking and singing and to gain educator competence in voice education.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learns the basic information to use his/her own voice naturally and healthily.
2   Learns basic information about the vocal system and voice physiology.
3   He/she understands the preliminary studies that prepare him/her for singing and learns to use diaphragmatic breathing in a controlled manner.
4   Learns the basic elements in the formation of correct and aesthetic voice.
5   Learns works from Turkish and world voice literature.
6   Acquires the habit of lifelong learning.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 General information about voice education, the aims of voice education and the importance of voice education in music teaching.
2 Providing basic information on voice and respiratory anatomy, voice formation and protection of voice health. Determining the state of the voice by voice exercises and singing a known song.
3 Providing information and implementation of technical exercises for preparation for the lesson (mental and physical relaxation, exercises for the development of posture and diaphragmatic breathing).
4 Mental/physical relaxation and breathing exercises. Moving the voice to the resonance zone with closed mouth exercise. Voice exercises with different vocals.
5 Mental/physical relaxation exercises, breathing exercises, voice exercises and starting the Vaccaj method.
6 Studying the exam songs by heart and with piano accompaniment.
7 General review, course evaluation, Midterm Exam.
8 Technical studies for preparation for the lesson. Voice studies at different intervals within an octave and new song studies from the Vaccaj method.
9 Preparatory studies. Voice studies at different intervals within an octave and continuation of song studies from the Vaccaj method.
10 Preparatory studies. Vocal studies on legato and staccato techniques and musicality studies on selected songs.
11 Preparations and new song studies.
12 Preparation studies. Determination of exam songs and detailed study.
13 Accompaniment and memorization reinforcement exercises for exam songs.
14 Study week.
15 End of term exam.
