Course Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to read historical and literary texts written in Ottoman Turkish, to transcribe them, and to analyze the texts in terms of grammar, spelling, and content.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Reads and transcribes Ottoman Turkish texts accurately.
2   2. Analyzes the spelling and language features used in texts.
3   3. Explains the use of Arabic and Persian elements in the text.
4   4. Recognizes idioms, terms and stereotyped expressions used in Ottoman texts.
5   5. Distinguishes differences in language and style between texts from different genres and periods.
6   6. He translates ancient written texts into modern Turkish.
7   7. Evaluates Ottoman Turkish documents in historical context.
